"The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion." -Paulo Coelho

"The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion." -Paulo Coelho

Paulo Coelho was a novelist born on August 24th, 1947 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil. When reading about his life, it seems as if he has spent his whole life testing his limits and exploring the world to find out what life truly meant to him. His expeditions and experiences often ended up reflected in the lives of the characters of his many novels. Paulo Coelho literally lied his life by his quote "The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion." I think that means that if you want to change the world, don't sit around and talk about how it needs to be changed, get out there and do something to inspire others, and that he did. Although it got him in trouble a few times, such as when he was allegedly engaged in activities against the Brazilian government via pop and rock music lyrics, he went against the grain of society of Brazil and then traveled abroad seeking out his own truth. By becoming a novelist he was able to share his experiences and set that example for readers around the world (Pallardy).

Some people consider it "taboo" to talk about politics, but its an important subject that I can't help but bring up. There is a race for the White House right now, and this quote and this quote makes me think of Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders in particular. He may not win the Democratic Primary elections, but I've become a fan of his all the same. So many candidates have always just spewed their opinion on what they think needs to be done or what they plan on doing as president etc. just to market themselves to people and gain votes. Bernie has actually gone out and been a part of one of the most important movements in our nation's history, the Civil Rights movement. There are pictures circulating of him marching, protesting, and being arrested like many others were who were fighting for equality and to end segregation. He's still fighting for equality and people's rights today. That's why I think Bernie Sanders is a good example of someone trying to change the world by example rather than their opinion.
